ROLE
The successful candidate will become an integral member of our growing Project Management team, with immediate opportunities to be assigned several projects and will manage each project from beginning to completion, with long term client satisfaction in mind.
This position is intended for a self-motivated candidate willing to learn all aspects of the business, including but not limited to: cost estimation, negotiation, contract review/job set-up, procurement, logistics, project and financial management. This will be a very fast-paced working environment and the candidate should understand that formal training is limited. The candidate should expect to learn by jumping in, requesting information, assisting where needed, and committing an immense amount of time to learning the business, during what will be an especially demanding first year.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and enforces all company safety policies and procedures
- Understand SDB’s contracting and insurance procedures. Mediate between SDB and its clients, as necessary, regarding contract negotiations
- Understand SDB’s construction methods, capabilities, and limitations: the scaffold components and their intent; identifying when to use mechanical means such as: forklifts, MEWP’s and cranes; the production limitations of a scaffold erector under ever-changing conditions during eight (8) to twelve (12) hour days; and the challenges of the fluctuating project schedule
- Understand self-perform labor
- Gain a rapport with current/future clients
- Understand basic project estimating ability, prepare proposals/change-proposals using existing templates and input (best-known methods) from the project team (i.e. General Foremen, Superintendent’s, fellow Project Manager’s and Area Manager)
- Responsible for complete project documentation, including correspondence, cost proposals, change orders, etc.
- Evaluates aspects of operational costs and works towards reducing costs and expenses where possible without sacrificing safety or quality
- Controls cost to maintain project budgets; identifies and eliminates unprofitable activities
- Ensures accurate, complete, and timely completion of company reporting relative to: purchasing, labor, safety, inspections, permits, and project performance
- Provides support for accurate and timely project billings
- Provides on-site project support
- Regularly analyzes actual project costs against budgeted costs for each project assigned, and when variances occur, determines cause(s) and takes necessary corrective action
Through personal example and leadership, maintains company reputation for outstanding client service and project quality
EDUCATION, TRAINING, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred but not required
- Five (5) years relevant construction industry experience (i.e. commercial, industrial, semiconductor, petrochemical, power)
- Ten (10) years relevant experience in lieu of degree
- Demonstrable knowledge of commercial construction trades and proven experience in both Project/Financial Management and Estimating disciplines
- Acquire and maintain all relevant scaffold certifications (i.e. Scaffold User, Scaffold Erector, Fall Protection, OSHA 30 and First-Aid/CPR)
- Strong leadership qualities; Military leadership experience considered a major plus
- Strong reading, writing, and personal communication skills required
- Ability to read, write, and understand contract language, contract drawings, and contract specifications
- Strong ability to plan and negotiate
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook), Bluebeam and Construction Management Software (i.e. Procore or similar)
- Ability to schedule projects, familiarity with Microsoft Projects (or similar) a plus
